About the Event
Zinemaking is a tangible, visual, yet ephemeral medium that can embody and reflect back to us the complicated power of interpreting and recording lost or missing stories from an interconnected, subjective perspective. Participants will gather for a collaborative zinemaking session to collectively imagine the creation of an artifact that reflects & showcases the themes, experiences & creations of the summer 2019 season of IMMEDIATE Fashion School, while holding space in that process for further exploration. In this session, participants will be guided through individual and partnered exercises, and lay out a framework to work from in the coming zine work days. Evening sessions for the rest of the week will be open for working to finish the zine. We'll then celebrate & launch our new zine at a party at MoHA on Friday evening.
Niku Arbabi is a textile artist and teacher focusing on self-expression and identity through hand making. She currently teaches zinemaking at the Griffin School, garment sewing, modern quilting, and embroidery. She’s been an active part of the zine community since the 90s. Niku has an artist residency, The Curious Stitch, running this spring and summer at Austin Central Library.
